BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday informed the State Government that almost an year had passed since the State had sought time to come up with a revival package for the New Government Electric Factory (NGEF) located in Bangalore. Justice Ramamohan Reddy, who is hearing the liquidation proceedings of NGEF, made the observation when he was told that the Advocate-General who appeared in the case on behalf of the State could not attend the hearing. Justice Reddy observed that the case had been dragging on for almost an year and movable assets in the factory, including machinery and vehicles, were rusting. He adjourned further hearing on the matter to January.
Pulled up
The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday took to task the Police Department for its "lax attitude" in attending to habeas corpus cases and warned the State Public Prosecutor that it would summon the Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, to appear before the court. A Division Bench comprising Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice A.S. Bopanna made the remarks while hearing a habeas corpus petition. Irked by the attitude of the police and also their submission, the Bench informed the State Public Prosecutor that it would have to summon the Commissioner of Police if adequate steps were not taken to ensure that such cases were dealt with expeditiously.
Issue of notice
A Division Bench comprising Justice V. Gopal Gowda and Justice H. Bilappa ordered issue of notice to the Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, on a petition relating to the construction of an expressway between Bangalore and Mysore. The court was told that the Bangalore-Mysore.expressway would have to be re-routed as it would otherwise cause damage to a tank.
