`Declare Kurnool second capital'

Special Correspondent

`Government must break the State into three or four pieces before the GO implementation'

KURNOOL: President of Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika T.G. Venkatesh has asked the Government to declare Kurnool as second capital of the State if it is so intent upon enforcing GO 610.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Venkatesh termed the GO irrational, as under it people from other States who had settled down in Hyderabad were locals while residents of Telangana, Andhra and Rayalaseema were non-locals. Even people from Mahabubnagar and Karimnagar were non-locals in Hyderabad. He added that he could sense a conspiracy behind the GO 610, as it was aimed at helping those living in Hyderabad, which was built with the help of people of the entire State. All Central offices in the State capital were being run with the money of the people of the entire State.

He said Government must be prepared to break the State into three or four pieces before implementing GO 610. The people displaced by the GO were about 60 per cent from Telangana, 20 per cent from Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. Mr. Venkatesh asked the Government to enhance the capacity of Sukesula barrage before committing water to Anantapur district. He also urged the Government to construct irrigation project across the Krishna at Sidheswaram to provide water to the entire Rayalaseema.
