Military ties, expanded economic dialogue included in plans

HYDERABAD:
The US-India civil nuclear trade agreement is only one part of a much broader partnership with India, according to Frederick J. Kaplan, Consul for Public Affairs in American Consulate General, Chennai. He said that during the visit of US President George Bush to India, both the countries had established a pact for cooperation in civil nuclear cooperation, military ties, and expanded US-India economic dialogue focussing on trade, finance, commerce and science and technology. In the last two months alone, a business mission of 250 companies led by Secretary Frank Lavin had come to India . In fact, a large number of these companies came to Hyderabad, he said. "Twenty-five per cent of these companies expressed interest in investing in India to promote bilateral trade as a result of the nuclear agreement and plans are afoot to create a Bi-National Science and Technology Commission to generate partnership in science and technology and promote industrial research and development," said Mr. Kaplan.
