Staff of bank suspended

BIJAPUR: The Syndicate Bank-sponsored Karnataka Vikas Bank has suspended five of its staff working in its Sindagi branch on the charges of misappropriation of funds and dereliction of duty. Those suspended are: Anilkumar R. Kulkarni, A.V. Kulkarni, A.D. Jadav, Ganisab M. Koralli and S.P. Karkoon. While Kulakarni, a clerk in the branch, has been suspended on charge of cheating the bank of Rs. 66.5 lakh, the others are facing charges of dereliction of duty. The bank sources told The Hindu that criminal complaints had also been filed against the accused.

`Move to township'

BIJAPUR: Secretary to the Government, Department of Infrastructure Development, V.P. Baligar, who is also Commissioner for Rehabilitation and Resettlement Wing of Upper Krishna Project, has asked citizens of Bagalkot, who have taken compensation to move to Navanagar, a rehabilitation township developed 6 km away from old town. Reviewing progress in rehabilitation work at Bagalkot on Tuesday he said the backwaters of the Alamatti Dam had submerged land and property located up to a mean sea level (MSL) of 519.6 metres. Property owners must move in their own interest. Otherwise, they would be evicted forcibly, he added. — Staff Correspondent

Licences revoked

Bidar: The Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies has cancelled permission of 51 financial institutions in the district for failing to renew their permits. Their licences to take up financial transactions such as collecting deposits and lending money have been revoked. Their deposits with the Government have also been taken over as per provisions of the Karnataka Financial Transactions Act 1961 7(B). Details such as name and addresses of the institutions are available with the DRCS office in Bidar. People have been cautioned against dealing with these institutions, a release said. — Staff Correspondent
