THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The INTUC-led Kerala Electricity Employees' Confederation has accused the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) of having falsified figures relating to its fiscal performance to make it appear that it was in financial straits. Confederation general secretary M.S. Rawther told a news conference here on Wednesday that the KSEB had fudged figures to make it appear that it would end the current fiscal with a loss of Rs.239.19 crore and the coming year with a loss of Rs.430.11 crore despite the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission having computed that the KSEB would have a profit of Rs.184.63 crore during the current year. This, he said, had been done to make it appear that the KSEB could not survive in the public sector and must be privatised, to deny revised wages to the KSEB employees and to facilitate power tariff hike. Although the KSEB had originally estimated its depreciation at Rs.247.43 crore during the current year, it now pegged it at Rs.423.91 crore. It also jacked up the receivables under `Other Items' Rs.225.01 crore against the original estimate of Rs.91.78 crore.
