Rupee moves up

MUMBAI: The rupee staged a smart comback against the U.S. currency and closed sharply higher at 44.77/78 a dollar due to a combination of factors such as fall in dollar against world currencies, smart recovery in share prices and fresh sales of U.S. currency.

In active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit resumed better at 44.80/82 a dollar, but soon fell sharply to a low of 44.90, only to recover and close at 44.77/78 a dollar, higher than Tuesday's close of 44.8325/8425. — PTI
