Thiruvananthapuram: The State-wide campaign aimed at intensifying the sales of State Sports Super Bumper lottery through educational institutions was launched by the Education Minister M.A. Baby here on Wednesday. Addressing an assembly of students at the St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School after handing over the first ticket to the school leader R.S. Praveen, the Minister appealed to the student community to make the lottery a success. "It is for the benefit of the youth in the State that the State Government has come out with this novel idea. Sport in Kerala needs funds for improving the overall standard and I am sure that the student community would come forward to make the sports lottery a great success." The Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar, in his presidential address, highlighted the need for sports and games to be included in the educational curriculum. The Government, he said, would consider this long-standing demand seriously. Mr. Vijayakumar said the target for collection from the lottery through educational institutions has been fixed at Rs. 60 crores, but there would be no compulsion in buying the tickets. "What we are seeking is voluntary participation to make the lottery a success," he added. The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, C. Divakaran, V. Surendran Pillai, MLA, former internationals Cyril C. Valloor, K.M. Beenamol and the Additional Director of Public Instruction, K. Sasidharan, spoke.
