THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Host Kerala, Sathyabhama (Madras) and MG universities qualified for the semifinal league in the South Zone inter-university basketball tournament at the Central stadium on Wednesday. Sathyabhama crushed MG University 67-39 in a clinical display of aggression in the first match of the semifinal league. Sathyabhama never allowed its rival to settle down into any sort of rhythm. With a near flawless display in rebound collection and tight zonal defence, Sathyabhama was able to baulk MG from scoring. As the match progressed, MG's game slipped into a pool of errors, as miss-passes and wayward shooting became the order of the day. The results: Semifinal (league): Sathyabhama 67 (Milton 29, Dinesh Kumar 10) bt MG 39 (Bobin Mathew 14). Quarterfinals: Sathyabhama 61 (Milton 15) bt Calicut 16; Kerala 77 (Aswini Kumar 27, Shinumon Augustine 21) bt Annamalai 48 (Vigneswara 9); MG 82 (K.U. Rahul 34, Bobin Mathew 14, Nirmal K. Mathew 10) bt SRM 68 (Prem Sharavanan 28, Janakiraman 23, Basil 11); Madras 84 (K. Parthiban 23, K. Thyagarajan 21, Mohan Kumar 12) bt Bharathiar 63 (Nithin Kumar 18). Pre-quarterfinals: Kerala 72 (Shinumon Augustine 25, Jerald P. Titus 12) bt Gandhigram 36; Calicut 67 (Eudric Perera 18, Geo John 13) bt Bharatidasan 64 (K. Nataraj 19, Mithukumar 10).
