TIRUPATI : The Chittoor district unit of the CPI-M has once again expressed its deep anguish over the land-grabbers working overtime in and around Tirupati to make some fast money taking advantage of the boom in real-estate trade. Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, the party leaders led by its district unit secretary K. Murali charged that some vested interests in the officialdom are also being hand-in-glove with the land-sharks and cited in this connection the recent unearthing of a land scam in Tirupati involving some `ruling party big-wigs'.
Resurvey
It was in this context that the CPI-M has demanded an immediate re-survey of lands not only in and around Tirupati but up to Chandragiri and Srikalahasti as well, in view of the spurt in recent times in the land-grabbing incidents. The party also demanded that till such time, a detailed re-survey was completed, the Government must impose a ban on fresh registrations. It feared that the way the land value was skyrocketing all over the State and especially in and around Tirupati, house sites might go completely out of the reach of common people. The party also recalled in this connection the remarks of the Public Accounts Committee during its recent visit to Tirupati that the temple city enjoyed the dubious distinction of being No. 2 in the State next only to Hyderabad vis-a-vis land scams.
