HYDERABAD: The Congress has demanded that Opposition parties tender an apology to the people for stalling proceedings of the State Assembly on Wednesday. It accused the Opposition of hatching a conspiracy to prevent debate on assigned lands owned by several persons favourable to these parties and to shield those allegedly involved in collecting huge deposits for Margadarsi Financiers. Congress leaders attacked the Telugu Desam for shying away from the debate despite agreeing to it at an emergency Business Advisory Committee meeting held after the House witnessed uproarious scenes over the Chief Minister's decision to surrender 618 acres under his family's possession. Addressing a press conference, Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy and others regretted that the Opposition was pointing an accusing finger at Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy instead of hailing his gesture. Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao, Information and Public Relations Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir and Minor Irrigation Minister M. Mareppa were present. At another press conference, APCC official spokesman N. Tulasi Reddy and party farmer cell chairman M. Kodanda Reddy wanted others to emulate Dr. Reddy.
