Call for speedy completion of lift schemes
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has asked engineers to complete the lift irrigation projects taken up in the Telangana region in tune with the deadlines for providing water to crops by next kharif.
Reviewing the progress of the projects at a meeting here on Wednesday, he asked them to fix timeframes of their own to complete Devadula, Yellampalli, Bhima, Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu, Koilsagar, Srisailam Left Bank Canal (tunnel) project, and Mid-Manair lift schemes before the Government deadlines. He, however, complimented the engineers on their achievements so far.
Dr. Reddy wanted Phase I of Devadula to be completed by March next so that water could be provided to crops from kharif.
He instructed the officials to finalise tenders fast for Phase III. He sought steps by them to properly connect all the three phases.
Similarly, the Chief Minister sought release of water from Yellampalli, Bhima, Nettempadu and Koilsagar by June 2008 and from Srisailam Left Bank (tunnel) canal project by June 2009. Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah and top officials were present.
