GUNTUR: Indiscriminate use of groundwater resources has brought down the levels to alarming position and unless some realistic ground-level steps are taken it will be difficult to protect this precious resource, says hydro geologist D. Vijaya Saradhi. At a conference on `conservation and management of groundwater' at Hindu College here, Mr. Saradhi said that he explained the sources of groundwater, its utilisation, availability, quality and measures to be taken for re-charge. Mr. Saradhi, who is Task Force Officer of Hydrology Project for Krishna and Guntur districts, said that water was a social resource and not personal possession of any individual. People must focus on replenishment of the groundwater through re-charge pits in houses and offices by collecting rainwater. Geology Head of the Department A. Subrahmanayam was also present.
