NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday accused the Congress of promoting forward trading in essential commodities and charged that this was the prime reason for the sharp increases in prices all round. Pointing out that people these days were purchasing crops standing in the field and were after the harvest earning crores of rupees by selling the crop as middlemen, Dr. Vardhan said the BJP had been continuously demanding that the Government properly monitor forward trading in food grains and control it so that the prices do not increase any further. "The Government has brought the trade of food grains and spices under the purview of forward trading. Due to lack of any stern law and adequate monitoring of the system, the people connected with forwarding trading are manipulating it in their interests and are increasing the prices ,'' the senior BJP leader said.
