BELLARY: Contrary to the announcement made by H.D. Revanna, Chairman of the Karnataka Milk Federation, that the entire benefit of the increase in the price of milk would be passed on to the farmers, the Bellary-Raichur and Koppal Milk Producers' Federation here has decided to pass on only 85 paise. H. Hanumanthappa, president of the federation, told presspersons here on Tuesday that milk procurement was around 63,000 litres a day while the sale was to the tune of 52,000 litres. As such the federation would get an additional revenue of Rs. 52,000 that had to be shared among all . In addition, the federation has decided to contribute eight paise and pass on 85 paise to the farmers as against their demand of rupee one per litre. "The federation will still have to face a financial burden of Rs. 3 lakh a month," he said and added that a decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of the Board of Directors. The hike in the prices of milk will come into effect from December 15. He said that the process of inviting tenders for installing a milk chilling centre at B.M. Sugur village in Sirguppa taluk at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.5 lakh, had been completed and the work may start soon.
