DEHRA DUN: The Election Commission of India has directed the Uttaranchal Government to ensure enrolment of all persons as voters who will be eligible to exercise their franchise as on January 1, 2007. Announcing this here on Wednesday, the Chief Electoral Officer, N. Ravi Shankar, said that all District Magistrates had been asked to ensure immediate compliance of the directives. Special efforts are also being made to provide photo identity cards to the voters and those left out should promptly contact the concerned officials, Mr. Ravi Shankar said. "The authorities are also gearing up to ensure a free and peaceful polls," he said.
