Maintain dignity of Raj Bhavan, BJP tells Jakhar

"Prevent the Congress from misusing office"

Bhopal: Barely a week after Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar sought examination of the multi-crore social security scam involving a Cabinet Minister, the State's ruling BJP on Wednesday asked him to maintain dignity of his post by preventing Congress from making political use of his office.

"The Raj Bhavan should not be allowed to become a centre of political activity of Congress," State BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar said in a statement here.

"The manner in which Congress has been making ugly demonstrations and issuing reactions suggests that dignity of the Raj Bhavan was being degraded," he alleged adding ``it is improper to use Raj Bhavan for the benefit of Congress."

Without referring to Mr. Jakhar's move to get the scam examined by the Cabinet, Mr. Tomar asked the Governor to maintain the dignity of his post by taking steps "to prevent political interference by Congress and snub its improper activities".

Claiming that development has gained pace in the State, Mr. Tomar said Congress' "negative" approach posed a hindrance and asked the Governor to prevent the "peaceful State from becoming a political arena".

The BJP's outburst came barely a week after Mr. Jakhar, in a letter, directed Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to place before the Cabinet the issue of the multi-crore social security scam at Indore Municipal Corporation allegedly effected when PWD Minister Kailash Vijayvergiya was the mayor of the city.

The scam involved alleged disbursement of pension under the social security scheme to a large number of ineligible beneficiaries. PTI
