Helping people plan a holiday

Special Correspondent

Website has details about picnic spots

Bangalore: When they set out to do something, they do it thoroughly. Balbir Singh and Amrit Sethi are better known as the husband-wife founders of what is the first residents' association website Koramangala.com.

The website provides enough information for people from other neighbourhoods who would like to go there either for shopping or dining out.

New link

Koramanagala.com has a brand new link now, a site called Yelagirihills.com. There is a story behind why this less known little hill station across the State border should have a website of its own.

Three-hour drive

"It is just an easy three-hour drive from Bangalore by the Hosur-Krishnagiri route and you drive about 20 minutes uphill and are faced with a small lake and lovely wooded valleys. There are a few small but reasonably good hotels for weekend stay. It is quiet and far away from any urban sprawl and just the place to unwind and get over all that work-related stress,'' says Mr. Balbir. In fact, the catchword of the website is "Just Relax."

Reservation

For the last three years, the couple has been helping Bangaloreans make hotel reservations on the Yelagiri Hills and trying to plan an itinerary and figure out the best routes to reach there.

Apart from the commercial angle, the couple are also keen that the environment of the hills remains unspoilt and far from what most tourist spots there.

Survival

About Koramangala.com, they remark: "Eight years is a fairly long time for a website to have survived in cyberspace and what makes it even more gratifying is we have never had any outside funding of any sorts."

Their success may even spawn more neighbourhood portals, Bangalore's answer to the neighbourhood newspapers of other cities.
