Training programme

CHENNAI: The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Chennai Kendra is offering a nine-day training programme on soft skills, creative writing, personality development and effective study habits for school students from Class VI to XII. The course will be for a two-hour duration from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., beginning December 23. The courses will be conducted at Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram in Kilpauk. Abandoned baby

Childline, a 24-hour National Emergency service for children in distress situations, received a call from the Ashok Nagar Police Station yesterday. The caller informed them that a five-day-old male baby was found abandoned near a trash bin. Blood donation camp

The Indian Red Cross Society conducted a blood donation camp at Hotel Green Park, Vadapalani. The camp was organised by O.N. Ragu Prasad Rao, Deputy Manager, HR.

Eye camp

The Hindu Mission Hospital conducted the Kannappar Eye Camp at Kannabiran Koil, Pallavaram, on Wednesday. An ophthalmologist and a refractionist screened 90 patients and referred 19 for Intra Ocular Lens surgery.

Recital competition

Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Chennapuri Baktha Jana Samajam will conduct a Tirupavai and Thiruvembavai recitation competition for men and women above 25 years of ageon December 30 at 10.30 a.m. at Sri Sankaralayam, 66, Mayor Ramanathan Salai, Chetput. Death condoled

Chennai Corporation Sanitary Inspectors Union has condoled the death of Senior Engineer (Solid Waste Management) V.R. Gurumurthy in the city on Tuesday. He had taken over as Senior Engineer only a few months back. The official had been admitted to a private hospital recently due to health ailments and died because of complications.

The Mayor, senior officials and other political leaders of the Corporation had paid their respects to the mortal remains on Tuesday. The funeral was at Mr. Gurumurthy's hometown, Mayiladuthurai, on Wednesday morning.

Pension adalat

The Southern Railway will hold a pension adalat at its headquarters office here on December 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to redress the grievances of senior citizens, who retired from the office, Chennai Divisional Office and other offices/workshops in Chennai area.
