Beedi leaf collection charges hiked

HYDERABAD: Beedi leaf collection charges have been increased by 10 per cent for a bundle of 50 for April-May 15 period next year. The new charges will be paid at the end of May, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests C. Siva Sankara Reddy gave this assurance to leaders of the State unit of All-India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha here on Wednesday. According to a press release,, Mr. Reddy responded to a memorandum listing several demands. The demands included running of all beedi leaf units by the Government, payment of bonus for 2006 and implementation of insurance for beedi leaf collectors.
