Hectic lifestyle promoting infertility, says expert

Staff Reporter

`Late marriages and career involvement directly contributing to problem'

HYDERABAD: London-educated infertility specialist Roya Rozati on Tuesday said there was proof that late marriages and career involvement were directly contributing to infertility or problems that were coming in the way of normal conception of children.

Dr. Rozati of the City-based Centre for Fertility Management told presspersons that the Centre would conduct a week-long ICSI (intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection) camp in association with embryologists from Cambridge, UK, from December 14 at Road No.3, Banjara Hills.

She regretted that the average age of a woman, when most couples in the country decide to go in for techniques like ICSI and in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), was around 34 and 35 years.

The general success rate of ICSI in assistant live births was 27.7 per cent in the case of women aged between 25 and 30 years. The rate was directly proportionate to a woman's age, she said.

According Dr. Rozati, infertility was becoming a problem these days, given the fact that people generally preferred late marriages and family planning, and were giving priority to career advancement.

Particularly, a steep fall in sperm count among males was an alarming problem. Aside from this, motility of sperm was directly related to lifestyle, what with today's lifestyle being full of stress and strain.
