Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan would preside over the function on December 20. A meet of sports stars would be organised in the evening. They said the programmes would begin with a meet of overseas Keralites on December 17. Various entertainment programmes featuring actors, playback singers, film personalities and musicians would be organised in the following days. Various schemes would be undertaken as part of the jubilee. The Thrissur zoo would be shifted to Puthur in phases. The Government had earmarked 305 acres of forest for the purpose. Land and Rs.10 crore had been provided for compensatory afforestation in lieu of the diverted forests. A cultural heritage complex would be built at the present location of the zoo at a cost of Rs.20 crore. A new nursing college was also proposed to be set up in Thrissur.
