General strike: security stepped up

Thiruvananthapuram: The State police have stepped security in view of the nationwide strike called by Left trade unions in protest against the "anti-people policies" of the Union Government. The police have intensified patrolling. They said those blocking roads, forcing the closure of shops and preventing employees from attending work would be prosecuted. — Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: Mediaperson Poovachal Sadasivan has been selected for the Sevana Bharati Award instituted by the Sastra Sahitya Institute for his `four-decade long service in the cultural and social arena.' The award carries a purse of Rs.25,101, a statuette and a citation, said a release from the institute. — Staff Reporter

Bank branch to

be shifted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Medical College branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce is being shifted to the DIA Complex, near Kala Kaumudi Lane, Kumarapuram. It will start functioning from the new premises from Friday. — Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Admissions to nursery classes at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's school at Poojappura scheduled for Thursday have been postponed to Friday, said a release from the secretary. — Staff Reporter
