HYDERABAD: The time frame for selecting the Build, Operate and Transfer developer for the proposed Hyderabad Metro System has been extended up to April next year from January as was indicated earlier, said Project Director N.V.S. Reddy on Wednesday. Talking to presspersons, Mr. Reddy said that the technical and financial documents for the bids were under preparation. These have to be submitted to the Government of India and the Planning Commission for getting the project's 20 per cent viability gap funding. Both of them had in principle agreed for the funding, expected to be in the tune of Rs. 1,700 crores of the total cost of Rs. 8, 000 crores, plus project for the three routes being planned across 66 kilometres. The Project Director said that the project was very much on schedule since all the "preparatory work" was almost ready. Major portions of all the main roads on which the elevated metro rail system is planned have been widened. "Delhi Metro took 11 years, Mumbai and Bangalore took four years to finalise all issues. We have been trying to constrict the time frame for processes," said Mr. Reddy. Intense discussions were on about rails, safety, speeds, bogies, stations, etc., to make Hyderabad Metro a notch above Delhi's.
