Police foil bid to steal sandalwood

BANGALORE: A Hoysala patrol squad foiled an attempt by an armed gang to steal sandalwood from High Grounds police station limits on Tuesday night.

The police said that around 11.30 p.m., a few persons were attempting to cut a sandalwood tree at Chakravarthy Layout in Vasanthnagar.

On being alerted by the residents, the Hoysala squad rushed to the spot. On seeing the policemen, the thieves ran away.

The police seized sandalwood logs and a saw from the spot. The High Grounds police have registered a case.

Killed in accident

Hanumantharayappa (26) was killed after he rammed his motorcycle against a culvert and fell into a drain on National Highway 4 in the early hours of Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. when Mr. Hanumantharayappa, an employee of a private company in Sadashivanagar, was riding home in Peenya, the police said. The Yeshwanthapur traffic police have registered a case.
