Three arrested for cheating bank

NEW DELHI: A 56-year-old man and his two nephews have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch for allegedly cheating Oriental Bank of Commerce of over Rs.1.4 crore by availing themselves of a loan on the basis of forged property documents.

Young man killed in accident

NEW DELHI: A young man was killed and five others, including an old couple, were injured when the Honda City car he was driving crashed into the central verge of the road and landed on a Hyundai Sonata car on the opposite carriageway at Vasant Kunj here late on Tuesday night.

According to the police, the accident took place around midnight when Aman Puri, 22-year-old son of a businessman of R.K. Puram, was going in his Honda City along with his friends Siddhant Sahni and Arjun. Silver ornaments seized

NEW DELHI: About 400 kg of silver ornaments valued at Rs.80 lakhs have been seized by the police allegedly from two workers of a local courier company at Chandni Chowk.

According to the police, the ornaments were brought to Delhi from Chennai on board the G.T.Express to evade taxes. The Government departments concerned, including the Director of Revenue Intelligence, have been informed of the seizure.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi police have won the Webber Seavey Award-2006 for their community-policing programme "Parivartan". The award has been instituted by the US-based International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

The award was presented to Police Commissioner K. K. Paul on Wednesday by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Sagar Preet Hooda, who received it on behalf of Mr. Paul at Boston in the U.S. recently.

Five young men arrested

NEW DELHI: With the arrest of five young men, the Central Delhi police claim to have smashed a gang of notorious criminals. One .32 revolver loaded with six cartridges and two knives have been recovered from their possession, the police said.

The accused -- Rajesh, Praveen, Deepak, Sandeep Verma and Sonu Gupta -- were reportedly hatching a conspiracy to commit robbery at the time of arrest.

NEW DELHI: Two Delhi Police head constables who were involved in a scuffle at the Teen Murti police compound at Chanakyapuri have been booked.

It is learnt that the incident took place when one of the head constables objected to the loud music being played at the other's house. There was a heated exchange followed by a scuffle. One of them allegedly beat up the other's wife.

On the basis of the complaints lodged by both sides, a cross-case has been registered at the Chanakyapuri police station. "We are also contemplating departmental action against them," said a police officer.
