Spotlight to be on intelligent sensing

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Worried about constant monitoring of ailing elders and children?

A solution is at hand with the development of bio-sensors that can be strapped on the wrist to keep a tab on chronic health problems in elders or illnesses in children.

These bio-sensors are wirelessly linked to hospitals where the doctors keep an eye on the vital parameters of patients.

Sientists say it is just a matter of time when these sensors will be a reality with the advancement of technology related to intelligent sensing and information processing.

As many as 250 scientists from 10 countries will participate in the fourth international conference on "Intelligent Sensing and Information Processing" being organised here by The Institution of Engineers (Karnataka) and University of Melbourne from Friday.

It will be co-sponsored by the conference by IEEE, U.S.

Wireless technology

Lalit M. Patnaik, General Co-chairman of the conference, told presspersons here on Wednesday that distributed sensor networks and wireless technology offered hope for the future.

"The applications of intelligent sensing and information processing are vast in health, defence and disaster managements," he said.
