Oil refining capacity shoots up in current fiscal

NEW DELHI: The country's oil refining capacity has shot up by 16.5 million tonnes during the first six months of the current fiscal. This addition has come from six million tonnes capacity expansion at the Panipat refinery of Indian Oil Corporation and 10.5 million tonnes from the new grassroots refinery of Essar Oil at Vadinar. Petroleum Minister Murli Deora has told Parliament that oil refining capacity will rise by 60 per cent to about 240 million tonnes by the end of Eleventh Plan Period.
