Bill to regulate educational institutions

Special Correspondent

Guwahati: The Assam Assembly on Thursday passed the Assam Non-Government Educational Institutions (Regulations and Management) Bill, 2006 which is aimed at regulating the establishment and management of private run educational institutions in the State.

The new Act, however, exempts schools established and maintained by minorities. The All Assam Students Union opposed the Bill alleging that the new legislation would only affect private run Assamese medium schools and would not check mushrooming of private English medium schools as the legislation does not cover institutions under CBSE.
