ATPSF jawans staging demonstration turn violent

GUWAHATI: At least 50 jawans of the Assam Tea Plantation Security Forces (ATPSF) were injured on Thursday when police fired rubber bullets at them to prevent them from entering the Assam Assembly.

Earlier police used water cannon and teargas as the ATPSF jawans staging a demonstration demanding regularisation of services and pension facilities turned violent.

Statement sought

The Opposition parties in the Assembly disrupted the proceedings for nearly 20 minutes during Zero Hour demanding a statement from the State Government on incidents of alleged police brutalities on demonstrating Home Guards and teachers appointed under the Operation Black Board (OBB) scheme.

This was the second day when khaki-clad security personnel clashed with the police in front of the Assembly. Earlier, on Wednesday about 50 khaki-clad Home Guard personnel were injured when police resorted to a baton-charge on them.
