Government staff join strike in U.P.
Special Correspondent
LUCKNOW:
Expressing solidarity with the central trade unions on the twin issues of pension and terminal benefits, around 12 lakh government employees and teachers in Uttar Pradesh joined the nationwide strike on Thursday.
Even as the Government said the strike drew partial response from the employees, the U.P. State Employees Council and the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh (teachers' association) claimed the strike was an overwhelming success. "About 80 to 90 per cent employees participated," said Amarnath Yadav, president of the Employees' Joint Council.
