Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
A new India-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group with Nirmala Deshpande as its chairperson has been set up. Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee made the announcement when he welcomed the Chairman of Pakistan's Senate Mohammadmian Soomro here on Thursday.
The meeting was described as "very cordial" and "warm" with Mr. Chatterjee expressing the view that greater communication between the Parliaments could help to further cement the friendship between the countries. He noted that the friendship between the peoples was "unique".
Next CPA meet
It was agreed at the meeting that the next conference of the India-Asia regional branches of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association would be held in Pakistan in March next year, ahead of the main CPA conference scheduled to be held in September in New Delhi.
