KADAPA: Police fished out the body of a fisherman Santosh (20) who drowned when a boat capsized in Somasila backwaters in Vontimitta mandal when he went for fishing. Santosh belonged to Uppada village, police said. Staff Reporter

Donation to NGO

TIRUPATI: The Mumbai-based sweetmeat chain Thiwari Sweets on Thursday donated Rs. 1 lakh to Rehabilitation Society for the Disabled, an NGO operating at Tirupati for the cause of physically challenged persons. The amount is to be utilised for the construction of a building to house the centre for hearing-impaired children. Special Correspondent.

SEC warning

KURNOOL : State Election Commissioner A.V.S. Reddy said the Commission would initiate punitive measures if candidates in the local bodies elections did not forward the expenditure statement immediately. In case of continuing lapse, they would invite a six-year disqualification, he said. The Commission identified certain contestants who were accused of fomenting violence and they would be penalised as per the law. Special Correspondent.

LIC office-bearers

KADAPA: V. Ajay Kumar was unanimously elected president and S. Prabhakar secretary of LIC Kadapa divisional office unit of Insurance Corporation Employees Union on Thursday. G. Padmaja Latha was elected vice-president, D. Subbarayudu, V. Fakiraiah and G. Chandramohan Reddy as joint secretaries and P. Ayyavaru Reddy as treasurer, the union divisional general secretary B.V.S. VBR shutter fixed

KURNOOL: Officials on Thursday fixed the shutter to the vent which got washed away on Wednesday. When they were trying to open the gate to supply water to Velugodu mandal from Velugodu balancing reservoir (VBR), the door came off flooding the low-lying areas. - Special Correspondent

Grievance boxes

HYDERABAD: Four grievance boxes have been installed in Chenchalguda prison and two more at State jail for women, thanks to an initiative by the City Civil Court Legal Services Authority. Instructions have been issued to Superintendents to ensure free access for prisoners to drop petitions for legal aid or complaints of transgression on human rights. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Indian School of Business (ISB) on Thursday announced the setting up of a research Chair in `Family business and wealth management' named after Thomas Schemidheiny. Joint advisory panel

HYDERABAD: The Central commission for de-notified, nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes has suggested a joint advisory committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister to get feedback on various schemes for these sections. Two killed in accident

NIZAMABAD: Two persons were killed and one injured when a motorcycle in which they were travelling from Balconda to their native village Titri collided with an oncoming lorry at Chittapur X-road on Thursday evening.

The deceased were identified as Somalinganna (50) and Nadipi Ganga Rao (55). The injured Chinna Bhojanna was shifted to district headquarters hospital in Nizamabad. -Staff Reporter

Singareni Day celebrations

ADILABAD : Singareni Day celebrations will be held for two days on December 22 and 23 at Godavarikhani this year according to Chief General Manager of Singareni Collieries B. Ramesh Kumar.
