New Delhi
It is easily one of the toughest jobs in the country. And for the first time, the Indian Army is going all out to recruit in schools. On a different mission, the Army has decided to launch a nation-wide campaign called "Mission Career". This campaign was kicked off in the Capital recently and will continue for almost a month. A career in the Army might inspire respect, but in the world of instant communication and consumerism that is often very compelling, that is often not a criteria that students have high on their priority. And to ensure that they get the whole picture, the Army will pitch jobs to students studying in Class XI and XII. Not meant for the weak-hearted or those looking for a life full of luxury, this one requires commitment, a huge sense of patriotism and the ability to work in a team. Apart from focusing on personality development, it will concentrate on telling students about the opportunities it has to offer. Selling the facilities that the job offers - health care, housing, and education for children all taken care by the employers -- the Army hopes to be able to get young students to make the choice for the right reasons. Looking for the brightest, the "Mission Career" team will visit the 50 most prestigious schools and colleges to spread the word. A complete recruitment exercise, it will have the team making presentations, assessments and getting feedback from students. The objective is to clear all doubts the students or their parents might have about the Army. And the selected few will get to visit the Rajputana Rifles in Delhi. -- Mandira Nayar
