Doha: Sushil Kumar and Palwinder Singh Cheema added two more wrestling bronze medals to the Indian collection in the 15th Asian Games at the Aspire Hall here on Thursday. The 23-year-old Sushil beat Leonid Spiridonov of Kazakhstan on points 3-1 in the match for the bronze medal in the 66kg category. Sushil took his tally to four technical points in the second period after having taken one point in the first. The Kazakh opponent was awarded one technical point towards the end of the second period, with three seconds left on the clock. Earlier in the day, Sushil had lost his semifinals against Takafumi Kojima of Japan 0-5 after beating Mohammed Al-Qubaisi of the UAE and Arslan Khutaliyev of Uzbekistan. The 24-year-old Cheema, who had won the bronze in the last edition in the 120 kg section, won a tough bout against fancied Marid Mutalimov of Kazakhstan to claim the medal once again. Cheema had won his earlier bouts against Mohamad Shaheen of Iraq and Urmat Mustapaev of Kyrgyzstan. However, he could not make the final as he lost to Fardin Masoumi Valadi of Iran. In the 84 kg category, Anuj Kumar won against Marcus Girard Valda of Philippines but lost the bouts against Magomed Kurugliyev of Kazakhstan and the eventual gold medallist Reza Yazdani of Iran. Vinod Kumar beat Sumreat Hun of Cambodia but lost the quarterfinals against Taghi Dadashi of Iran in the 55 kg section. The Indian wrestlers took their tally to one silver and five bronze medals. The women in particular have done well in accounting for the silver and one of the bronze medals.
Fail to impress
In the Canoe Doubles (C2) 500m men's final, the Indian duo of Sanjit Singh and Sawlabow could not recapture its earlier form and finished sixth. In the event, the Uzbeks took the bronze behind the defending champions Wang Bing and Yang Wenjun of China, while Alexandr Dyadchuk and Kaissar Nurmaganbetov of Kazakhstan won the gold with a timing of 1:45.801. The Indian pair had a bad start and returned a time of 2:02.597.
