An unusual landing at Delhi airport

Staff Reporter

A woman passenger gives birth to a baby boy at the terminal

NEW DELHI: There was an unusual landing at Delhi airport on Wednesday. While flights might have had difficulty in landing due to fog, folklore came to life as the proverbial stork visited Terminal 1A.

In what was the probably the first real "delivery" at the airport, a woman gave birth to a baby boy in the newly revamped toilet of the terminal. The woman, an Indonesian passport-holder apparently, went to the toilet, went into labour and gave birth to the boy.

"She was in the cubicle for a very long time. The housekeeping staff got really worried when she didn't come out. They shouted out for her and then managed to help her with the baby,'' said an airport official.

The staff then called for the medical team stationed at the airport for help. "They helped clean up the baby. They also examined the child and the mother to ensure that they were both okay. The passenger was then taken to All-India Medical Institute for a check-up. She and the baby boy are reported to be fine,'' said the official.
