Man killed in car accident

NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old man was killed and his friend injured when the Hyundai Accent car he was driving crashed into the central verge of the road and then hit a boundary wall at Kapashera in South-West Delhi early on Thursday morning. The vehicle later caught fire.

According to the police, the incident took place around 2-15 a.m. when Dharmendra, who earlier worked with a call centre, and his friend Amit were returning from a function. They were on Samalkha Road when Dharmendra lost control of the wheel and hit the central verge. The vehicle came to a halt after crashing against a boundary wall.

Local residents rushed to rescue the two who were trapped in the mangled vehicle.

Three held in

passport racket

NEW DELHI: Three men allegedly running a fake passport and visa racket have been arrested at Welcome Colony in East Delhi.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Mohammad Gulrej, Vakil Ahmed and Mohammad Shahid, cheated people by promising them jobs in the Gulf countries. They put advertisements in newspapers and picked their victims from far-off places to avoid repeated visits by them.

arrested

NEW DELHI: A shopkeeper allegedly involved in the business of sale and manufacture of fake products has been arrested at Nehru Place here. Fake goods worth several lakhs of rupees have been seized from him, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at a building premises in Nehru Place belonging to Dev Kumar and seized 28 toners, 71 inkjet print cartridges and 56 MRP stickers.

18 held for smashing glass windows

NEW DELHI: Eighteen persons have been arrested on charges of smashing the glass windows of a mall at Wazirpur in North-West Delhi. The accused were participating in the general strike called by trade unions on Thursday.

The incident took place around 12-15 p.m. when some of the protesters began pelting stones at the mall, breaking a few glasses.

According to the police, the protesters also damaged the windscreens and windows of vehicles parked outside the mall.
