BANGALORE: The Mysore Lokayukta police caught a block education officer while he was allegedly accepting Rs. 2,000 as bribe for showing some official favour to a teacher. According to the police, M. Shivajirao, block education officer of T. Narasipur taluk, had sought Rs. 5,000 from K. Prabhuswamy for grant of financial benefits pertaining to the suspension period of his wife. He had paid Rs. 3,000 to the officer and filed a complaint with the police. Shivajirao was produced before the jurisdictional court, the police said.
Sentenced
The Principal District and Sessions Court of Belgaum sentenced M.B. Chinivalar, first division assistant of Bailhongal, to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 2,000 for demanding and accepting Rs. 2,000 as bribe. He was caught in April 1997. The court also sentenced Kempanna Durgappa Khatedar, village accountant of Parishwad, to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 2,000. The court found him guilty of accepting Rs. 1,000 as bribe for issuing certified copies of record of rights to a person.
