CHENNAI: Karnataka won the South Zone junior girls' hockey championship here on Friday. Andhra finished second. In the round-robin league format, Karnataka and Andhra finished with seven points each, with two victories and a draw. But Karnataka emerged triumphant on the basis of better goal average (+6) to Andhra's (+3). Tamil Nadu finished last losing all its matches.
The results: Karnataka 6 (Kulambi 2, Munirathinamma 2, P.N. Shruthi 2) bt TN 1 (S. Rasna); Andhra 1 (Ashwini) bt Kerala 0. Special prizes: Best goalkeeper: K.N. Dechamma (Kar); best defender: C. Archana (Ker); best forward: K. Alekya (And); Player of the tournament: P.N. Shruthi (Kar).
