KOZHIKODE: The National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C), will host another robotics event on Sunday. The institute had organised a national-level robotics workshop `Robotrix' during `Tathva 2006.' The event is being organised by the IEEE Student Branch along with Electrical and Mechanical Engineering associations. Prahlad Vadakkepat, Assistant Professor, the National University of Singapore (NUS), will conduct the session along with two of his students from NUS. Dr. Prahlad, who is noted for his work in the field of humanoid robots, is the founder secretary of the Federation of International Robosoccer Association (FIRA). He is also the founder director and mentor of `Robhatah Robotic Solutions' in Singapore. The team from NUS will present their humanoid robot `Manus-I,' which has a structure like a human being and can walk. It can also kick a ball using intelligent vision based navigation and special sensors. The team will also present other robotic creations, including co-operative robotics-soccer playing robots, bio-morphs and spoked-wheel walker. The robotics show is part of Dr. Prahlad's Kerala tour. The workshop is aimed at inculcating a passion for robotics among youngsters, K.P. Mohandas, Dean and mentor, IEEE Student Branch, NIT-C, said in a press release here.
