Shashi Tharoor to visit Palakkad

Shashi Tharoor will visit Plachimada and address the agitators in front of the Coca-Cola bottling unit there.

PALAKKAD: Under Secretary General for Communications and Public Information, United Nations Organisation, Shashi Tharoor will visit his home district Palakkad on Tuesday.

He will inaugurate the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Society for Rural Improvement, a micro-credit programme for poverty alleviation of the poor on the lines of Grameen Banking system of Dr. Muhammed Yunus of Bangladesh.

The inaugural function will be addressed by O. Rajagopal, the former Union Minister; V. Chenthamarakshan, M.L.A; Snehalatha Kumar, Executive Director, Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK), New Delhi; among others.

Inspector General of Police B. Sandhya will present a paper on `Women's Empowerment and Safety' and Radha Unni, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India, Thiruvanathapuram, will present a paper on `Women's Empowerment and Self-Help Group.' Dr. Tharoor will also visit the Mahakavi P. Kunhiraman Nair memorial library at Kollengode.

According to the Anti-Coca-Cola Agitation Committee patron Vilayodi Venugopal, Mr. Tharoor will visit Plachimada and address the agitators in front of the Coca-Cola bottling unit.
