KOCHI: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will inaugurate the centenary celebrations of the CSI Immanuel Church, Broad way, at the Fine Arts Hall on Tuesday. Governor R.L. Bhatia will preside over the function. Education Minister M.A. Baby will launch the church's centenary projects. Addressing mediapersons at the Ernakulam Press Club on Friday, Vicar of the parish T.I. James said, "Immanuel Church is the oldest Anglican church in Ernakulam and is also the mother of all Protestant churches in the city." The Navy band will play at the inaugural function and this will be followed by a visual presentation of the history of the church. About a dozen projects will be launched in connection with the centenary celebrations. They include morning-meal programme for the needy, home-based care for HIV-infected and affected children, a geriatric and palliative day care centre, night shelter for migrant labourers, home-away-from-home for destitute tribal children, educational help for underprivil- eged children, medical assistance, financial assistance for the marriage of poor women, home for the homeless, tribal-welfare programmes at Anakkulam and Adimaly and library and research centre.
