KANNUR: The month-long annual `Thiruvappana' festival at the Muthappan Devasthanam at Kunnathurpadi here will begin on December 18. The `devasthanam' believed to be the original abode of Muthappan, the popular deity in the region, would be the destination of thousands of Muthappan devotees from different parts of the region. The festival will conclude on January 16. Devasthanam traditional trustee S.K. Kunhiraman Nayanar and Payyavur Devaswom chairman T.P. Rajeevan said at a press conference here on Saturday that arrangements were under way for providing facilities to the thousands of devotees reaching the shrine situated in the midst of a forest located nearly 3,500 feet above sea level. On the first day of the festival, there would be theyyam performances representing the four stages of the life of Muthappan, they said.
Facilities for devotees
Round-the-clock facilities would be provided for the devotees coming to Kunnathurpadi, they said. Developmental works estimated to cost nearly Rs.75 lakh for improving the facilities for the devotees were under way, the officials added.
