It is the sketches that attract one at the exhibition of photographs, paintings and sketches by Jyothish, currently on at Lalithakala Akademy Art Gallery in Kozhikode. The sketches of cats, CSI Hall, Kozhikode railway station and that of his own workplace, Kozhikode Court Complex, stand out. Jyothish, a lawyer by profession, did not formally learn photography or painting. He was attracted to painting during his school and college days. In between, he got an SLR camera and became a shutterbug. "Now I regret not paying attention to painting," rues Jyothish. He has exhibited 28 photographs, four sketches and three paintings. A small girl struggles to climb a stair in one of the photographs. A photograph of a close-up of a tortoise head reveals a different face of this animal. The blurred images of a dance performance, a Kathakali artiste, photographs of dance recitals by actor Shobana and dancer Neena Prasad are included in the exhibits. Four oil paintings, including of Valayanad Devi Temple and a scene from Munnar, are on display. This is Jyothish's first exhibition. It will conclude on Sunday.
