WELL DONE: Rana Naved (right) celebrating with Mohammad Hafeez after sending back Brian Lara to the pavilion.
KARACHI: Opening batsmen Mohammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal hit half-centuries and piloted Pakistan to a seven-wicket victory over the West Indies in the fifth and final one-day international Saturday. Hafeez top scored with 92 off 111 balls while Kamran Akmal made a brisk 56 and guided Pakistan to 239 for three in 46.5 overs. The Pakistan openers' effort overshadowed Shivnarine Chanderpaul's resolute hundred in the West Indies total of 238 for seven in 50 overs. Pakistan which clinched the Test series 2-0, also recorded an emphatic 3-1 win in the one-day series. The first one-dayer was washed out owing to rain. Earlier, medium fast bowler Rana Naved (four for 43) grabbed three wickets in his last four overs and restricted the West Indies total to less than the 250-run mark. Left-handed Chanderpaul, who opened the innings, batted with a runner in the latter part of his innings due to a recurrence of pain in his left knee and scored 101 off 142 deliveries. Chanderpaul added 96 runs with Brian Lara (44) off 108 balls for the fourth wicket before Naved dismissed both the West Indies batsmen. When Lara reached 25, he joined India's Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, Inzamam and Sanath Jayasuriya from Sri Lanka to complete 10,000 runs in one-day internationals. Inzamam recovered from a finger injury after missing the last match in his hometown on Wednesday. AP
