Varsity convocation on January 9

MYSORE: The 87th annual convocation of the University of Mysore will be held on January 9 at Crawford Hall. C.N.R. Rao, National Research Professor, will deliver the convocation address. SunTechnics signs pact with bank

MYSORE: SunTechnics, one of the world's largest system integrators for renewable energies and the flagship company of the Conergy Group, has tied up with Cauvery Kalpatharu Grameena Bank for retail funding of environment-friendly energy solutions. A release said the bank would directly profit from this association as it provided easy financing options for clean and environment-friendly renewable energies. Rajesh Bhat, Country Manager, SunTechnics India, said, "Through this loan options, we are able to offer a better service for our customers. Training

MYSORE: Kiriya Pushpa Family Helper Project, a non-governmental organisation, working for the uplift of downtrodden, will organise a three-month training programme in job-oriented skills for the unemployed youth aged between 18 and 25. MYSORE: Chinmaya Yuva Kendra, Mysore, will organise inter-collegiate competitions in essay writing and debate. Fare meters mandatory

HASSAN: Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority and Regional Transport Officer M. Shobha has asked all autorikshaw drivers in Hassan city to fix flag meters and collect Rs. 10 for the first 2 km and Rs. 5 per km for every km. Passengers can lodge their complaint at the nearest police station or fax their complaint to RTO on ph: 240514 or call 240660 if any driver is found demanding excess fare.

HIV counselling for pregnant women

HASSAN: Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement has started counselling centres to educate people against the spread of HIV/AIDS from parents to children. These centres are opened in Primary Health Centres at Shantigrama and Salagame in Hassan District, Hagare and Halebid in Belur taluk and at Halekote and Hallimysore in Holenarsipur taluk. Counselling will be offered to pregnant women and free medicines will be distributed among them to prevent mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS. — Staff Correspondent

Blood donation

HASSAN: In all 48 students donated their blood at a blood donation camp organised in A.V.K. College by Akhila Karnataka H.D. Kumaraswamy Abhimanigala Sangha on the occasion of the Chief Minister's 48th birthday on Saturday. Abhimani Sangha Hassan District President B.G. Chief Minister to open Bidar Utsav

Bidar: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will inaugurate Bidar Utsav, an art and culture show at the Bidar fort on December 27. He will also lay the foundation stone for the renovation of Naya Kaman, a historical monument that was destroyed by heavy rain some time ago.

The Government had agreed to release Rs. 10 lakh for organising the three-day utsav, Agriculture minister and district in-charge Bandeppa Kashempur told presspersons here on Saturday.

Apart from music, dance and drama performances, the utsav will have food, health and agriculture melas. A Jyoti Yatra, kite-flying competition, tonga race, camel race and wrestling contest will be held, he added. — Staff Correspondent

57 paramedics complete training

Bangalore: Fifty-seven medical assistants, after completing their six-month training, passed out from the Air Force Medical Training Centre here on Saturday. The passing-out parade was reviewed by Air Commodore Kevin Fernandez, Deputy Commandant of Air Force Command Hospital.

The airmen who passed out belonged to Course No. 177, the first to induct 10+2 science candidates after changes in the minimum eligibility. Air Commodore Fernandez said that with the enhanced qualifying requirement there would be a marked improvement in the quality of service provided by the paramedics. — Special Correspondent

turns 48

Bangalore: The 48th birthday of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy was celebrated here on Saturday in a simple manner. Sweets were distributed at his residence in the morning. There was no celebration at the party headquarters on Racecourse Road.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and several Ministers went to his residence and greeted him. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi and Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Cyriac Joseph greeted the Chief Minister on the telephone. — Special Correspondent

Hospital begins nephrology services

Bangalore: Columbia Asia Medical Centre, the first hospital to have entered India through the foreign direct investment route, has announced the commencement of its dialysis and other specialised services in nephrology at its hospital in Hebbal.

Speaking at the opening of the new haemodialysis centre, Nandakumar Jairam, chairman of Columbia Asia Medical Centre said, "We are pleased to gain from the nephrology expertise of our specialists and particularly the experience in establishing and managing the state-of-the-art haemodialysis centre." — Staff Reporter
