Belgaum: Regional Commissioner for North Karnataka Amita Prasad has taken note of the delay in submitting the third-party report on the quality of flood relief works taken up this year. In an official release here on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh informed the Regional Commissioner that the report of the third-party inspection had not been submitted so far. Ms. Prasad was presiding over a divisional meeting of officials including Deputy Commissioners of all the seven districts in Belgaum division Belgaum; Bijapur; Bagalkot; Dharwad; Gadag; Haveri; and Uttar Kannada here on Friday. This is the first such meeting the Regional Commissioner presided over after assuming charge on August 5. She directed the Deputy Commissioners and other officers to ensure good quality in all development works. She stressed the need for them to officers should optimise their efficiency and respond to problems of the people and extend timely solutions. The Deputy Commissioners should pay attention to all the ongoing works and ensure good quality so that their role in the district administration was more effective. Road works taken up on the State highways in Belgaum, Bailhongal, Khanapur, Saundatti and Ramdurg taluks under Karnataka State Road Development Corporation had been completed. The Corporation had spent Rs. 2,202 lakh on it. Repair works on certain roads were under different stages of progress, she said. Under package-I, a 398.55-km stretch of road had been taken up for repair; under package-2A, repair works of a stretch of 154.16 km has been completed. Also, repair works under package-2B covering a stretch of 113.79 km were nearing completion, she said. Under the Karnataka State Infrastructure Development programme, some of the road works valued at Rs. 139.25 lakh had been completed and the remaining were nearing completion. The Government had decided to upgrade a stretch of 446.16 km of the State highway in Bijapur district and that of 274.73 km in Bagalkot district. The Government was spending Rs. 1,072 lakh in Dharwad; Rs. 1,482.71 lakh in Gadag; Rs. 1,364 lakh in Haveri and Rs. 1,701.03 lakh in Uttar Kannada districts for the improvement of State highways passing through these districts. Issues such as improvement of railway line; development of airports; and construction of a government medical college in Belgaum were discussed at the meeting.
