HASSAN: At the communicable diseases surveillance review programme held at his office on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner K.S. Ashwathanarayana Gowda advised people not to neglect communicable diseases and seek treatment in early stages. District Surveillance Officer N.N. Rajagopal told the meeting that between January and November, the district recorded 1,560 tuberculosis cases and in this 99 persons died. In November alone 13 people have died of TB. Mr. Rajagopal said Hassan district recorded 402 gastro-enteritis cases, 14,282 dysentery cases, 11,907 diarrhoea cases, 226 jundice cases, 715 influenza cases, 5,659 people had been bitten by dogs, 623 cases of snake bite, 570 cases of food poisoning and eight cases of dengue fever. Mr. Rajagopal said during this period, seven persons died of gastro-enteritis and five succumbed to snake bite. The district reported 24 cases of leprosy. F.R. Jamaadar, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla pancayat and Nagaraja Rao, District Health Officer, were present.
