TIRUPATI: The 11th international workshop on the technical and scientific aspects of MST Radar concluded here underlining the need to set up a world centre for studies and research on Radar Atmospheric Science. The international steering committee of the workshop adopted more than half a dozen recommendations of far-reaching significance. The committee noted the importance of education, research and training in atmospheric science for capacity building and recommended that it be made a major subject for deeper studies in more universities in the country. It also wanted to encourage bringing out advanced editions on ST/MST radars and their applications in meteorology. It was further recommended that international schools on atmospheric radars be organised. Tirupati was identified as the venue for the school for 2007. It was also proposed to establish ST/MST/Wind Profiler radar meteorology training centres. The committee also underscored the importance of studies in the field and decided to promote establishment of ST/MST radar networks in different regions with research and operational applications. Similarly it was also decided to strengthen research activities on the International Network of Tropical Atmospheric Radars (INTAR).
