THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Nationalist Congress Party has decided to sit as a separate block in the Assembly. The party also allowed its district leadership to take decisions on alliances in local bodies depending on the local conditions. But it would not have any alliance with the UDF in making or breaking elected councils of local bodies. State president of the NCP K. Muraleedharan, central committee member Peethambaran Master, former state president Cyriac John, Working Committee member A. C. Shanmughadas, MLAs A. K. Saseendran and Thomas Chandy told mediapersons here on Saturday that the party had decided to sit as a separate block in the aftermath of its ouster from the LDF. Mr. Saseendran would be the leader of the legislature party and Mr. Chandy the deputy leader. In the local bodies, the NCP and the DIC (K) respectively had won several seats in panchayat elections either as part of the LDF in the case of the NCP and as per regional understanding in the case of the DIC (K). District presidents have been authorised to take decisions on the basis of local conditions as most of the electoral adjustments were forged locally. " As far as the NCP is concerned, we have no commitment to any of the fronts," Mr. Muraleedharan said.
