Guntur
Staff Reporter
GUNTUR: A special party of the Guntur police unearthed a large arms dump of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) in the forest area of Bollapalli mandal in the district during a combing operation on Saturday. The police party first found a .303 rifle wrapped in a plastic sheet along with 35 rounds of ammunition, which led to the suspicion that there could be a dump nearby. On a thorough search the police party found five stainless steel cans of explosives each weighing 20 kg and another three cans weighing 10 kg each along with two claymore mines stashed inside a dense cover of bush and trees. Superintendent of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy told reporters here in the evening that the dump was found in between Papaipalem and Veerammakunta Thanda. This was the second such dump found in the Bollapalli area in the past three months. The previous one was a large dump of caps, belts, kits and other accessories found near Guvvalakunta near Ravulapalem in September. Officer on Special Duty M. Raviprakash was also present.
Constable injured
A Greyhounds squad head constable M. Rajanna fractured his hand after he fell into a well at Sirigiripadu in Veldurthi mandal, during combing operations. Visibility was poor in the area due to thick early morning fog. He was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad by road. His condition is stated to stable, according to the OSD.
